Asia-Pacific Trade Ministers met in the third Asia Pacific Trade ministerial meeting on 15th December 2009 in Seoul, R.Korea  

The third ministerial meeting of Asia Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA) was held in Seoul, R.Korea on 15th December 2009 hosted and chaired by the First Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance of the Republic of Korea, Hur Kyung-Wook. The meeting was also attended by ministers or vice ministers from the five APTA members as well as by ESCAP Deputy Executive Secretary Shigeru Mochida. The six APTA participating states of Asian countries include the region’s three largest economies: China, India and the Republic of Korea, and the other three countries include Lao PDR, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. A representative from Lao PDR is Dr. Nam Viyakhet Minister of Industry and Commerce.


U.S. AND LAOS LAUNCH SECOND PHASE OF TRADE PROJECT 

VIENTIANE (Feb. 2) – The United States and Laos today launched the second phase of a U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) project to help Laos meet the requirements to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), comply with obligations under the Lao-U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), and fulfill its commitments to the ASEAN Economic Community.


USAID WORKSHOP HELPS LAO NATIONAL ASSEMBLY PREPARE FOR WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION ACCESSION 

VIENTIANE (Feb. 3) – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is sponsoring a workshop for the Lao National Assembly to help parliamentarians learn from the experiences of Cambodia and Vietnam in their joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) and their implementation of U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) commitments.


ICT and E-Tourism Seminar (13-15 November 2007, Vientiane, Lao PDR) 

The first time of the workshop on ICT and E-tourism was kicked off on 13-15th November 2007 in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The three-day workshop at the Economic Research Institute for Trade, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Lao PDR was jointly organized by MoIC, Lao National tourism Administration, and UNCTAD/TrainForTrade Project, with financial support from France Government. Around 35 representatives from ministries, public and private tour operators were participated in the workshop. The workshop was designed to build up the knowledge on using ICT into tourism industry in order to assist on building the awareness of both public and private sectors to ICT on tourism.
