Note to Authors

1.        The main objectives of the Trade Research Digest are: to stimulate policy research, both internationally and 
                within the country, on trade-related issues relevant to Laos; to provide an outlet for high quality trade policy  
                research related to Laos; to stimulate the usage of trade-related research into decision making and policy
                planning; and to provide an opportunity for Lao researchers to share their research with a wider audience.
2.        The Digest is published twice a year, in December and June, and authors are invited to submit papers in time, at
                least four months prior to the publication of each issue.
3.        All papers will be published under the name of the author/s. A brief description of the author should be given with                  contact details and institutional affiliation if working for an agency or an institution; if necessary a statement to 
                say that the views expressed are those of the author and not of his/her institution may be made.
4.        Papers must be of academic style, on policy oriented issues relating to trade, investment, competitiveness, 
                private sector development and economic development, and have a relevance to Lao PDR. Subject matter must
                be original, and devoid of political views.
5.        Each paper should contain a List of Acronyms (if any), and an Abstract (short summary of the paper) apprx. 200
                words; an Introduction - outlining the issue or issues examined and the objective; Methodology used to examine
                or analyse the issues; Main body of the paper, where appropriate, divided into Sections or Parts; Summary and
                conclusions; and References.
6.        Format for papers: Approximately 30-50 A4 size pages - typed using Microsoft Word; margins: 2.54cm for top,
                bottom, left and right; font: Times New Roman; font size: 12; and spacing: 1.5.
7.        Tables and figures should be consecutively numbered and their sources, if any, given. Any equations should be
                identified by consecutive numbers in parentheses.
8.        Any published material and/or statistics used should be acknowledged appropriately. Relevant publications read
                for the purpose of the research may be given in a list of references in the alphabetical order. Any quotations or
                views copied from previously published material should also be acknowledged. Direct quotations should be     
                acknowledged in a footnote, or by reference to the relevant publication in the list of references, if such a list is
                given, and follow the style used in this volume. Further information and guidelines may be obtained from the

9.        All submission of papers should accompany corresponding Author's postal and e-mail address, and be forwarded
                electronically as an e-mail attachment to: Editor, Lao Trade Research Digest, Economic Research Institute for

10.        Next edition of the Digest will be published in June 2011, and papers are invited preferably before 31 March
                2011.
