Over 1,000 Vientiane residents and expatriate joined the opening ceremony of the Vientiane Expo 2015 to mark the 40 years of socio-economic development and achievements.

The exhibition is being held between 28 November and 7 December and was opened in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Lao PDR Thongsing Thammavong and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongloun Sisoulith, and other high-ranking officials.

“The 40 year anniversary of the Lao PDR is one of the most momentous events in the history of our national development. It is a key milestone of the establishment of our nation and recognition of the continued growth of the Party, government and people of Laos.  It is an event to signify the proper and vivid leadership of the Party, together with the devotion of Lao people from all ethnic minority groups in protecting and developing our nation,” said the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mrs Khemmany Pholsena.

The Lao PDR has had many significant achievements that have laid a solid foundation for the country to reach targets set by the Party for the country and people.

“Those targets include achieving the well-being of its people, prosperity and potency for the nation, solidarity and democracy for the society, and justice and ivilization. Throughout the past 40 years, we have been able to maintain our national independence, sovereignty and entire territory with stability.  Our nation has fundamental political stability and is socially secure and orderly. Our economy continues to progressively develop.  The national GDP has continued to increase rapidly and the economic structure is both healthy and dynamic.  The situation on the ground has evidently and continually evolved and as a result, the livelihoods of Laos’ people have improved.  Our Party and government’s role and influence on international stages has also been expanding,” Mrs Khemmany said.

She added that the Vientiane Expo 2015 is an event that contributes to the celebration of the establishment of the Lao PDR 40 years ago.  The government and Party will take this opportunity to publicize the direction of the country in order to firmly build trust about future prospects for the country.

To publisize the great successes in national development over the past 40 years under the leadership of the People’s Revolutionary Party, the exhibition is being held to display products and goods that have provided sources of income for people and other government supported projects such as examples of One District One Product (ODOP).

The expo also creates an opportunity for both Lao and foreign business people to meet one another, conduct trading activities, and exchange lessons relating to business experience.

In the exhibition there are 209 business operators including both local and foreign entities, and local and foreign businesses. There are more than 350 exhibition booths. There are 159 local enterprises 23 of which are from the provinces and 18 of which are ODOP.
