Myanmar-Laos visit on Aid for Trade Programme

In order to share experiences on lesson learned regarding the management and implementation of the Aid for Trade programmes, especially on the Enhanced integrated Framework EIF programmevand to identify solutions to commonly facing problems that effectiveness, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Myanmar led by his Excellency Dr. Pwint San, Deputy Minister of Commerce.
On June 23, the delegation paid a courtesy call to Her Excellency Mrs. Khemmani Pholsena, Minister of Industry and Commerce, at the same day, and held an informal meeting with Department of Planning and Cooperation. On 24 June 2014 an exchange workshop was held to update each other about the aid for trade program and the process of conducting the Diagnostic Trade Integration Study under the EIF.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr Phouvieng Phongsa, Deputy Director General of Department of Planning and cooperation emphasized that the Trade and Private Sector Development facility, which ran from 2008, until March 2013, was succeeded by the second phase and commitments the Phase 2 of the EIF YTier-1 at the moment and this project will run until December 2015 and SECO project. The EIF Tier-2, which was formulated internally, has been approved and will end in December 2016, In addition, Lao PDR just concluded formulation of bilateral assistance including GIZ, USA and we expect further assistance from the World Bank, SDC, and others.
H.E Dr. Pwint San also thank you Lao PDR on this sharing the valued experience and lesson learned with Myanmar EIF country team and this will be used for supporting the process of preparing the DTIS as well as other implementing projects in future.
The Myanmar delegation also has plan to visit a number of development partners active in trade and private sector development in Lao PDR, and a number of private sector development initiatives supported by trade related technical assistance in Laos, and Vientiane Industrial Park.
