Laos’ WTO membership celebrated

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce held a meeting to mark the 1st anniversary of Laos’accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Vientiane Capital on 5 Feb.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Thongloun Sisoulith, and Vice President of the National Assembly, Mr Xaysomphone Phomvihane and relevant officials.

Laos accessed the WTO membership on 2 Feb 2013 as its 158th member.

“Since 1997, the Lao PDR has focused on creating and improving over ninety laws related to WTO conventions. Notable laws include the law on enterprises, law on tax, law on investment promotion and law on intellectual property,” said Minister of Industry and Commerce Mr Nam Viyaketh.

On the same day at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, labour medals and congratulatory certificates were awarded by the deputy prime minister to prominent individuals and organisations in recognition of their contribution to the facilitation of Laos accession to the WTO. (KPL)
