Study visit of Lao drafting committee to KPPU Indonesia

Jakarta, 17 December 2013 – Deputy Chairperson of Competition law Drafting Committee, Mr. Bounthiene Keosipha Deputy Director of Domestic Trade Department, Ministry of industry and commerce. and representatives from relevant line ministries played an official study visit to the Commission for Supervision of the Business Competition (KPPU) to learn from Indonesian experiences in drafting and enforcing its Law No. 5/1999 Concerning Prohibition of Monopolistic Practices and Unfair Business Competition. The Lao delegates of ten officials were welcomed by Chairman of KPPU, Mr. M. Nawir Messi, along with KPPU Staff.

The aim of this visit was two folds. Along with competition lessons learned from KPPU, the two agencies also strengthen their bilateral cooperation and collaboration in promoting fair competition in their respective countries, thus, working toward the ASEAN Economic Community or AEC in year 2015.

During the three days visit, the Lao delegates had learned about the institutional set-up of the KPPU, which is with respect the most experienced competition agency in ASEAN region. The Lao delegates had also learned experiences in competition case handling procedures and challenges. These were fruitful sources for Lao Drafting Law Committee in designing its draft law appropriately.

KPPU Chairman,  Mr. M. Nawir Messi, valued this visit as a good start for both agencies to strengthen cooperation in the future and also willing to assist Lao competition agency by sending Indonesian competition experts, and the Head of Lao delegation, Mr. Bounthiene KEOSIPHA, was most thank you and welcoming this initiative.
