The Department of Foreign Trade Policy, Ministry of Industry as the Lead Committee and Focal Point of the Coordinating Committee on Services of Lao PDR and representative of Lao Government to hosted “THIRD SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COORDINATING COMMITTEE ON SERVICES (3rd Special CCS)“, supported by Promotion of Competitiveness within the Framework of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration” (GIZ COMPETE Project II). The Meeting was chaired by Ms. Basaria Tiara Lumban Gaol, Director of Trade in Services Negotiation, Ministry of Trade of Republic of Indonesia.
The meeting was held on 7-9 August 2023, Vientiane and attended by all ASEAN Member States (AMS), namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam; and also Staff members of the ASEAN Secretariat attended the meeting physically and virtually.
The representatives from the Coordinating Committee on Services of Lao PDR, lead by Mr. Khemdeth SIHAVONG Deputy Director General and representative from Trade in Services Division, Department of Foreign Trade Policy, Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Lao PDR; representative from Department of Investment Promotion, Ministry of Investment of Lao PDR; representative from Department of ASEAN, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting is one of a series of meetings ASEAN Trade in Services and the meeting objective is to discuss the following issues: 1) discussions on the latest ASEAN Services Facilitation Framework: ASFF draft text, with a view to concluding the text negotiations in time for reporting to the 55th ASEAN Economic Ministers; 2) review and update the ASFF work plan as necessary; 3) Operationalisation on ASFFF particular on the legal stature of ASFF, as well as the mechanism for AMS to update their ASFF implementation; and 4) discuss other matters.
The meeting takes an effort to promote and facilitate the building trade in Services and Investment implementation more effectively and efficiency as well as facilitate the building of the ASEAN Community and regional integration, as well as issues related to economy, digital economic development. In addition, the CCS leaders will also discuss ways to promote the ASEAN Trade in Services, focusing on cooperation, connectivity, sustainable development goals, economy and other areas of cooperation.
